Event Description

Registration is from 9am. Lunch and refreshments will be provided, as will a CPD certificate.

Motivational Interviewing is a person-centred, collaborative, conversational style for strengthening another person’s readiness and commitment for change. It is supported by a growing body of evidence of effectiveness for helping people change a range of behaviours in a range of settings, when delivered by a range of different practitioners. MI pays particular attention to the quality of the relationship (empathic, compassionate, non-judgemental, collaborative) as well as the language used by both the person and the practitioner.

The purpose of this workshop is to help CFT practitioners:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of the assumptions, principles, processes and skills associated with motivational interviewing
  • Become more confident in using the approach, via mini-demonstrations, supervised practice, coaching, feedback and discussion
  • Better understand how MI approaches, tools and strategies might be fused or integrated with CFT approaches to deliver improved activation and engagement of clients in critical CFT activities and processes – including increasing their motivation to practice between sessions

All participants will get a detailed handout and desktop guide to help them get better at motivational interviewing, as well as a draft paper exploring how MI and CFT might be best combined for improved patient and client outcomes.
