Event Description

This first workshop will concentrate on trauma and hyperactivated, highly aroused states, as often seen in both disorganised and ambivalent attachment. The science of emotional dysregualtion will be unpacked, and its effects on psychological functioning, brain states and the autonomic nervous system, whilst tracing such presentations  to early experiences. We will examine the clinical challenges of working with such states of mind and body, and alongside teaching using slides and video-clips, there will be ample space for discussion as well as live supervision, with role play for willing participants.,

Additional Information

This is Part One of a series of 3 workshops in which Graham Music will explore in depth the relationships between attachment theory, neurobiology, body states and therapeutic work, using a psychodynamic and compassionate focused stance. The workshops will look at the clinical challenges of finding and maintaining a compassionate stance in relation to disrupted attachments. All 3 workshops will have trauma as a central thread and will feature research findings,  from attachment theory, neurobiology and their clinical implications, looking  particularly how early experiences give rise to specific attachment styles and, models of relating, and how these can manifest in clinical work. All 3 workshops will be taught using video clips and slides, but there will be space made for some experiential work, specifically in relation to understanding and working with body states, our own and our clients'. A thread running through all 3 workshops will be the an awareness of the practitioner's embodied countertransfrence to their clients

The main themes will be:

Hyperactivated states
Deactivated shut-down states
Trauma, Guilt, Shame and the Body

Information on Parts Two and Three will be released shortly, and discounts will be available for those who wish to attend all three workshops.
